Animal Healthcare and Human Healthcare Converg

Doctors and scientists are realizing that there are more similarities between the species than they realized and many of the same diseases, conditions and maladies exist within humans and other mammals.

Dr Larry Norton, an oncologist and deputy physician-in-chief for breast cancer programs at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan, was quoted to say, "A mammal is a mammal is a mammal". All mammals whether four footed or those who walk upright run the risk of health issues in the areas of physical, psychological or social (this even includes addiction).

The traditional ideas of medicine being so different for animals vs humans is left for a more collaborative approach that could benefit all (some rural communities are far from being this advanced in their thinking but we can always hope!).

“Anti-cancer vaccines for humans, based on veterinary technology, are in clinical trials right now. Those clinical trials probably would not have happened without the success of the animals studies,” Norton said.

This is advocating the study of veterinarian medicine not the use of animals merely for laboratory testing. Like Dr. Norton said, "A mammal is a mammal". That means we can learn from each other if we respect the sanctity of life and health for all.
