Breast Cancer & Night Shift

New studies have suggested that women who work night shift long-term, such as nurses, are at higher risk for breast cancer. This is according to lead author Anne Grundy, PhD, a postdoctoral fellow at Cancer Care Ontario in Toronto.

Although researchers are not sure of how the two are linked exactly, it has been believed (since 2007) that disruption of the circadian acts as a "probable carcinogen". The disruption due to no just working at night but also light exposure. Another factor may be whether you are a "morning person" or "night owl" according to a study of Danish women Medscape Medical News reports.

Medical News Today also reports similar information on the subject. More research is needed to determine the specifics and any other factors that may be involved.
